Trevor Talks

Wow…I just realized that this May marks my first year here at the Guilderland Library! It’s gone by so quickly, and I know why! This past year has been AWESOME! I would like to thank all of you out there who have made me enjoy every day that I am here. You’re the reason why I love being a librarian!
With that said, there is a lot I gotta say, so here goes!

First, I am so excited to welcome our visiting author, Vivian Vande Velde! She’s one of my favorite fantasy and horror writers and I invite EVERYBODY to come hear her speak on Saturday, June 5th! Click on the lady in the chair for more about VVV !

We would also like to feature our visiting performer, Nancy Marie Payne on Sunday June 15th.

As our first Sky Camp program, she will artfully tell stories as if she were various female aviators! I’ve never seen anything like it!

For the month of May, Anime Fans United (Anime Club) will have two meetings, and then end for the months of June, July and August. But not to worry! We’ll have Anime Nights as part of Teen Summer Reading, and starting in September, twice-a-month meetings of Anime Fans United! (Sorry, no Yu-Gi-Oh or other card games please). Each meeting will feature an episode of anime and discussion of your fave books, movies, or whatever you collect related to Japanese pop culture! Food will be served!

Also, be sure to look for TAC and Visual Arts Group dates for May through August! We’ll be here!

We’re winding down the school year, which means I’m winding up by planning a kickin’ summer reading program. This summer, we’re “TEENREAD NY 2004: Read White and Blue!” Look for the return of the bingo cards, along with a few of last year’s events, such as Ductigami, book discussion groups (I’m looking for titles everyone’s talking about that you may have not yet read!) and Battle of the Books! We’ll also be doing workshops on bookmaking, making you own ice sculptures, anime nights, and…drum roll please…our three-day SKY CAMP! Sky Camp will feature programs and presenters all about aeronautics! Rest assured, members and future members of the Teen Advisory Committee, TAC will meet during the summer! Anyone interested in joining will be able to sign up when signing up for TEENREAD NY 2004! It’s an opportunity to have your say in what goes on at YOUR library! Sign ups begin June 21st! Get there early to sign up for teen events! (All teen SRC events are open to those going into grades 6 through 12).
During June, I’ll see you in the schools as I pump up this summer’s events! As always, keep stopping by to say hey! It always makes my day!

Later,

Trev

Trevor Bio

Where to begin? Who’s the new guy at the desk with the stuff all over it? Come on over and find out!
I’m the new librarian who works for you. I am here to entertain, and to help. I am not here to grade or judge. Overall, in many ways, I am here to listen.  Worried about a paper? Talk to me.

Seeing as I have many interests that range from
playing the cello, fishing, auto racing, comics, etc.  I think you’ll be surprised that something you’re interested in is something I like as well, and it’s what I think helps me to be a better librarian every day—being able to know a little bit about a lot of
subjects. And I hope you will come to find that I am a good helper and keep coming up with fun stuff to do here, so it’s not always just about the books.

If you think I need to improve something, let me know and I’ll work on it.

Lastly, and here’s my plug, I can only do so much for you as one person can, but when many people come together to evoke change, you will get so much more, so seriously, check out at least one Teen Advisory Committee meeting (come on, give an hour of your time talking about what you want to happen around here and I promise you, you won’t be sorry!).

So, if you ever have any questions give me a call at my desk. The number is 456-2400 extension 40. Or, if it’s easier, I check my email a lot, so mail me at oakleyt@uhls.lib.ny.us I’ll try my best to respond quickly!

See you ‘round.
