I think it's just plain "neat". I just discovered this site. In college I read Kafka. At that time, I liked the literature but really only because it was strange and surreal. I didn't really appreciate what he was writing about until one day about 30 years later I suddenly realized I was living in the universe he was writing about. To be more specific, I spent eight years as a government attorney in Cincinnati Ohio, first as a staff attorney with the children's services and then as an assistant county prosecutor (in the same job). It was a nightmarish experience but from which I gained many insights. You have to understand the community in which I live is based on cultural values that bear a great similarity to those of Kafka's world. This is a traditional german community in which which values of conformity and passivity have allowed power centers to operate unfettered by accountability or any recognizable morality. Not only is lying acceptable among public officials, it is actually considered openly a virtue if done to protect the leader. Business leaders publicly remind elected politicians that it is the business leader who is boss. The current stated priority of the city administration is building new parks for the baseball and football teams, while the neighborhoods are imploding. They can do this because the media keeps maintaining a fiction that the city is an urban Grover's Corners embodying the civic spirit of small towns where citizens keep their front doors open at night and invite strangers in for metts and brats. Even a quick glance at the index crime figures published annually by the FBI, gives the lie to that. After working in an environment dedicated to deceit and character assasanation I learned two things. 1. Why Germans so willingly and enthusiastically follow Hitler into catastrophic war and genocide. 2. How Gregor Samsa was transformed into a large bug. The thing is, the bug may be a metaphor. But work in the bureacracy long enough and the metaphor becomes real. I think that is the essence of psychosis. I felt invisible because I was irrelevant to the organization. Later I developed the delusion that others could see through me and that I was actually becoming invisible. Fortunately a brief stint of some new anti-psychotic drug cleared that up before I disappeared altogether. Anyway, sorry to rant on. I began writing as a form of therapy and haven't been able to stop. Anyway, I like the idea for this site and if my lengthy comments are inappropriate, let me know
