The Hermetic Truth of Iotacism.

Lo, it has been revealed to me, the things of ancient times pertaining to the secret lives of symbolic figures. Of the laws of number and of sound, of vowels and consonants, of nothingness and oneness and of the secret names of the deity. That which was unveiled by the greeks and jews of antiquity is now but thinly disguised in the lexicon of every tongue. The construction work continued undisturbed on Babel of old and they found the garden gate at Eden had been left unlocked. The key is in our hands, but do we need the filthy soil of our collective cradle. Better to dwell in the labyrinth or in the wastes. Self fallen autopator of man's first disobedience, internal serpent sing! The encoding in artificial minds of zeroes and ones hints at the dualistic nature of deity. But the idea, the thought, go little distance in explaining the hypostatic core of logos. It is rather the sound of an unutterably ancient ullulation that lies at the centre of the code. Glossolalia, the true language of our forefathers, the primal wail of pain and of ecstasy, of triumph and frustration. The hard emotional core, the ground of being where prophets and poets land after futile battle with meaning. Meaning is the deciever: Go in fear of comprehension, nonsense is our true heritage, it rolls in madness at the centre of the world. The pivot, turning point, axis mundi, has been located. Was not our Lord sacrificed upon a cross? Why does the Trinity add up to one? What is the secret of the pyramid? Who does the bluesman meet at the crossroads at midnight? Tiresias, though blind, sniffs the air and finds Oedipus carving up Daddy at the fork. What are we to tell the sphinx? Truly the very character sets of ancient hebrew and greek translate the inarticulate babble of children and doctor into the same prayer. Ask the mathematician if he knows why he habitually works in decimal. Why does the state of a figure change at ten? In both of these venerable systems we will find the same answer: Yodh or Iota, it is a matter of accent. Before the separation of letter and number, both of these glyphs represented ten. They also represented the smallest figure, the jot and tittle, the dot, the point. This is the moment which the cross leads us towards. The geometrical point is unrepresentable, no nib is small enough. The crossed lines and their nexus of connexion leads us into a pit, an abyss whose bottom or location we will never see. As the first Taoist tells us: It is in its absence that its effectiveness lies. The geometrist will tell us that his point has location but no magnitude. Location but no magnitude? What rot! and they use these points to fix lines, of negligable width, into shapes. How do they remain rigid, fixed? The slightest breeze could take them apart. We have entered the realm of representation, our dirty crude pen mark symbolises a clean piercing eternity, not the parchment that tears and turns to dust, the ideas which are lost as fast as we discover them. In our race's old age we take these symbols for granted. They are universal to the children of Gutenberg. Words have become meaningless and transmutable. They are no longer the divine logos of antiquity, no longer the shakers and formers of worlds, or so we might suppose. Should YHWH be pronounced? I speak not of the country parson Mr Jahovah, or even the eminent theologian Dr Yahweh. I was thinking rather of a word comprising entirely of vowels. The wail of a nomad in the face of his Lord. The harmonic ghost in the desert night which brought Mohammed to Gabriel the Djinni. Of the devout Jewish Talmud cultist losing his sacred scriptures to a text no longer comprehensible since it is entirely comprised of consonants. The hard gutturals, the islands of the ever moving mouth are useless without the swimming abysses of the open maw. The god that communes with the mystic and the schizophrenic alike was closer to the Hindu's OM, Which hides a third letter in its simplicity and conceals a third sound in its revelation.
