<p>The old commandant to rise from the dead suggests the ressurection of Jesus Christ. The line"have faith and wait" is like the doctrine of Jesus. This biblical element is put in the story to illustrate the adherent's faith on the old commandant, how he belives in the trial, and how he belives in the redemption brought by the tiral. There are other bibical elements to elaborate this idea. One is "transfiguration". The adherant once looks for the sight of transfiguartion on the face of the criminal. This suggest his expectation of the criminal's redemption. He belives that the old commandant's "holy" apparatus can help criminals to redeem. The faith of the adherant is presented, through this allusion to Jesus Christ, in an ironic way.

Yes, I deliberately pluralized the title, for that's the subject of an essay I need to write. My thesis is that Gregor's metamorphosis isn't the only change in the story, and that the other three members of the Samsa family are transformed through the course of the tale as well. I already have a basic outline for this essay, as well as some quotes and supporting text, but if anyone has any thoughts to this, or knows where I can find more information relating to it, the help would be greatly appreciated.
