I ain't gonna argue with you, that's for sure! Especially the bit about "eating acid and going nuts"... I've often wondered myself what, exactly, he was on at the time while writing some of this stuff (cf. Bucket Rider, Country Doctor, etc.) which seems an awful lot like something experienced during an acid trip or other chemically-induced state of mind. (Not that I know anything about what that's like, of course!) At the very least, mental instability comes to mind...But perhaps I'm just being hard on poor Kafka--aren't we all crazy at times?
I understand your point, it seems that searching for meaning so frequently ends up being just a total waste of time with no answers forthcoming, so wouldn't it be better to stop wasting your time on it? But at the same time, it seems that this search for meaning is a natural human desire, and no matter how much you want to escape to a Zen-like state of just being without reflecting, sooner or later you start wondering what it's all about and start spending your nights awake wondering and thinking (again). I like to experience without thinking myself, but then a part of the experience seems to be missing. (If I'm talking out of my rear end, please kindly let me know.)
