Kafka does concern himself with the question of finding a meaning in life, but I don't think that he thought in terms of finding a meaning in life, that phrase seems a little modern. The reality, however, is perhaps universal.
It seems to me that meaning in life depends on the meaning that you give it, through what you do, in other words it is not something that you simply look for. If you feel that life lacks meaning, perhaps it is because you are not creating a meaning, or have not created a meaning.
One of Kafka's aphorisms, which may be relevant to this, says that truth is indivisible, so whoever wishes to recognise it must be a lie.
On this basis we might say, the search for meaning implies that you have already abandoned any question of ever finding meaning.
Another aphorism, which may also be relevant, argues that death is like the picture of one of Alexander the Great's battles on the school wall. In life we have to try to cover up the picture by means of what we do.
In my own life I have noticed a change that takes place when you start to earn your own living. Because you are determining your own existence, the direction of your own life, you tend to feel less paranoid, and tend to worry less about life being meaningless. This does not mean that you have become shallow. Just that you know you are at least somewhat in control of things.
Having just read the comments of Grant M., I am a little worried that he is suggesting that religious faith leads to superficiality. It seems to me that there is not necessarily a definite meaning to the universe, although there may be to living in it.
As Kafka humorously observed, there is hope, only not for us!
