I would hardly say that faith in God leads to a superficial response to life, merely a simple one. God created the Universe to His glory. This may seem superficial to those who are not in the faith, as Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2:14, "The man without the Spirit does not accpet the things which come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he can not understand them, because they are spiritually discerned." In other words, if it seems shallow, you aren't looking at it through the Holy Spirit, which both expands and clarifies our understanding.
The Universe was created by God, and he transcends the Universe in every aspect. It is He who defines its meaning, and He who, through the Holy Spirit, reveals that meaning to those who are in the Spirit. Can it be explained to people who are not? No, because it requres the Spirit to understand it.
Does this mean that only true Christians can understand the meaning of the Universe? No, because otherwise no one would understand the Gospel message, and no one owuld be saved. The Spirit speaks to those whom God calls to be his children.
I hope this clarifies my point some!
