Gee, that's not what the Old Testament (The Pentateuch/Torah, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, Ezra, Nehemiah, Ester, Job, Psalms, the books of Solomon, Ecclesiates and the books of the Prophets) say at all. God is very much so active in the world. There are examples throughout the OT. For the most clear examples, look at the story of Abraham and the Patriarchs, Moses, the entry into Canaan, the judges, the reigns of David and Solomon, and the Assyrian and Babylonian exiles (and God's promise through the prophets while they were in exile).
In further discussion, the prophets clearly declare the coming of Emmanuel. Every prophesy was either fulfilled in Christ or will be fulfilled as he has promised in his return as judge. Don't believe me? Check out Isaiah's prophesy that He would be killed, but no bone would be broken (Jesus was crucified-- no bones broken. Even hanging would break his neck). Give me a propesy about the Messiah, and I will show you how it was fulfilled in Jesus, "son" of Joseph of Nazareth.
